Road Safety Engineering Workshops

These workshops are jointly sponsored by the New Zealand Transport Agency and the Local District and City Councils in the location where the current workshops are being held.
Three workshops are normally held in each location two in one year and one in the next, usually in April/May and August/September. More than 20 workshops have been held, and they are highly regarded by the industry as critical to professional development, hence the discount for IPENZ membership.
The purpose of the workshops are to provide a brief introduction to Road Safety Management Systems and prepare engineering staff to carry out Crash Reduction Studies and Safety Audits by revising key skills, informing about procedures and providing opportunities to practice with an experienced practitioner.
These workshops are for local authority staff and consultants involved in traffic engineering and safety issues. Designers, prospective safety auditors, crash reduction team members and network management safety staff will find this workshop very beneficial. Participants come from NZTA, District and City Councils, Roading contractors, consultants, and engineering companies from both New Zealand and Internationally.
Programme Content includes: Speed Management, Pedestrians, Cyclists, Human Factors & Road Safety, Skid Resistance, Retro reflectivity, Signage,& Markings, Road Lighting, Road Planning for Safety, Urban Design - Routes/Intersections, Roundabouts/Traffic Signals, Rural Road Design, Motor Cycles, Roadside Hazard Management, Barriers, Heavy Motor Vehicles.

Course Fees - Fees cover: a set of very comprehensive notes, catering (am/pm teas, lunches, and 3 dinners), and field trips.
Accommodation costs are additional to the course fees. All participants are encouraged to live in at the venue (even locals) as the course is very intensive with the practical exercises including considerable night work. Students are usually involved after 10.00pm after the practical exercises and must be ready for an 8.00am start the next day.
